Sabbath

We don't rest well, & we certainly don't rest enough!

“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
(Psalm 46:10 ESV)

In this verse, we see rest and worship. The two fit together well. God commands Sabbath; God models Sabbath. "Being still & knowing that God is God" - & thus that we're NOT God! - is a biblical, godly form of worship. We reflect & honor God as we sabbath & cease from work regularly.

But it's not one we do well. So in The City Church's rhythm of "scattered worship," we periodically worship as a church family by spending a day in God-centered rest. Certainly once every few weeks isn't enough, but it's a day to corporately model a personal lifestyle.

But don't waste this opportunity for godly rest, celebration, & stillness before God. Embrace & enjoy this biblical form of worship!

Sabbath Devotionals

Beginning in 2012, we're giving you a resource to help you dwell deeply with God amidst your other Sabbath activity (or "non-activity!"). More devotionals will be uploaded before every "Scattered: Sabbath" Sunday.
