[eNews] Ash Wednesday (+Childcare!), Scattered Worship, & The City Church App

Ash Wednesday Gathering
[THIS WEDNESDAY, Feb 22 – 6:30pm | 715 Samuels Ave]
This Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent (the 40 days leading up to Easter Sunday). And as a church family, we’re joining hundreds of years of Christian tradition with an Ash Wednesday Gathering. Liturgy, reflection, song, and ashes will fill this unique, hour-long gathering. We know this might be new for many of you – join us and experience “Ash Wednesday!”
JUST ADDED: we WILL provide childcare for Ash Wednsday, but you MUST RSVP by 8pm, Tues Feb 21, so we know how many kids to plan for.

Scattered Worship – Love Your Neighbors
[Sun, Feb 26 – all day | your home & neighborhood]
NOTE: We forgot to announce this at Sunday’s Gathering – please make sure your Village, friends, & guests know! Thanks!
This Sunday we follow our normal monthly Sunday rhythm by “scattering for worship.” Rather than being a “week off,” this is a chance to worship God by following his command to “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Hopefully your Village has started making plans, but if not, this Sunday’s worship exists that groups of folks in your Village will band together and do something intentional, as a way to love, meet, and build relationships with your neighbors, co-workers, and/or classmates.
Need ideas of what to do?
The possibilities are endless – but here are a couple suggestions:
- Take flyers around in advance – then put your grill in the front yard, with a table & a few yard games, & invite people to stop by & grab a burger.
- Host a movie night, or game night, or wine tasting, or… an evening centered around whatever your interest is.
- Have folks over to watch the Academy Awards, or a ballgame
- Do a progressive dinner with a few other folks on your block
- Clean up a public space – park, schoolyard, street, etc – and invite other folks to join you.
- Or whatever else – talk with your Village for neighborhood-specific ideas
Whatever you do, simply love people & show them you care about them – that’s loving God BY loving others this weekend!
Don’t squander this chance – and don’t shy away from God’s command. Be generous. Be gracious. Be loving. Be intentional. And worship God, as across Fort Worth, The City Church loves its neighbors well this weekend.

The City Church App
[free to download onto mobile devices near you]
As a way to continue and communicate well in a growing, “decentralized” church, The City Church’s app went live this week, for iPad, iPhone, and Android.
Why an app? It’s an easy way for folks to…
- Find a Village, core group, or interest area near you (“Gatherings” tab)
- Get directions to our Sunday gatherings, or learn about Scattered Worship details (“Gatherings” tab)
- Catch up on sermons they missed, as you prepare for Village discussion (“Sermons” tab)
- Get details on upcoming events (“Calendar” tab)
- Follow along on daily readings in The City Church’s Bible-reading plan – read or listen (“Bible” tab)
- Link to online giving, our online network and social media, website and partner organizations, and coming soon, videos and the Leviticus Discussion Guide (“More” tab)
The app is just one more way we’re trying to enhance unity and community, across the entire City Church family.
- Download it today: on your mobile device, search “City Church” in the Apple Store or Android Market
- Issues with the app? Email matthew [at] thecitychurch [dot] net (matthew AT thecitychurch DOT net)

If you’re jumping in late on our journey through Leviticus, or if you haven’t grabbed hard-copy versions of Discussion Guide sections, we’ve got you covered.
Head to our sermon archive, click the LOGO (not the sermon title) of the section of Leviticus you need the Discussion Guide for, and download the free .pdf. Each section also includes the general intro to Leviticus, which will be helpful for you if you’re just joining us.
